Christian Collet
Professor, College of Liberal Arts, International Christian University (国際基督教大学)
I have taught undergraduate courses and graduate seminars at ICU in the fields of public opinion, American politics and political methodology since 2008. I’ve held full time appointments at Doshisha University in Kyoto, lectured at The University of Tokyo and the University of California, Irvine, and held visiting appointments at Stanford University’s Shorenstein Asia Pacific Research Center (APARC) and Viet Nam National University in Ho Chi Minh City.
Currently, I am the primary investigator of the Japanese Public Opinion Project (JPOP), a multidisciplinary project that traces the theoretical and empirical development of public opinion in postwar Japan. Central to JPOP is the development of a relational, longitudinal and bilingual database that integrates economic, policy and electoral parameters with available media and government opinion surveys.
Previous projects have focused on the themes of immigration attitudes, media and political knowledge in Japan, value change in Southeast Asia and minority incorporation, party politics and voter turnout in the United States. I have also written about American attitudes toward world football and conducted research on technical aspects of football performance with a particular focus on the value of ball possession in team success.
I hold a Ph.D. in political science from the University of California, Irvine and a B.A. in political science from the University of California, Berkeley.
